Our longstanding Research Associate Program invites participants to spend a semester or year in residence at the FCWSRC, advancing major feminist research and writing projects. Each Research Associate is provided with a private office at the FCWSRC, access to libraries and special collections across the consortium, and opportunities to engage in the intellectual life of the Research Associate cohort and the broader Five College community. Designed for faculty on sabbatical, PhD candidates completing dissertations, and independent writers and scholars with external funding and fellowships, the Research Associate Program cultivates critical feminist discourse that transcends disciplinary lines, professional stages, and writerly traditions.
Computational Social Science Graduate Fellow (Winter 2026/2027)

The Computational Social Science Graduate Fellowship Program aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and networks centered around computational social science by funding teams made up of a PhD student and two faculty members, where each faculty member is from a different department. Over the course of the year, each team will discuss and set up a research project in the fall, do a research sprint to tackle deep work over the winter, then use the spring to pull together the work, present it, and prepare for next steps.

REAL Fellowship (2020 - Present)

The Research Enhancement and Leadership (REAL) Fellowship is awarded to outstanding doctoral and MFA students from historically underrepresented groups in the humanities and arts, social sciences, education, nursing and business. The fellowship provides four years of summer support in the form of a $5,000 fellowship each summer (two years for MFA students). Only Graduate Program Director or Admission Chair can nominate incoming students who have been admitted to a UMass Amherst doctoral or MFA program. Awardees are selected by the REAL selection committee.
REAL Fellows are included in a variety of programs, including informal, monthly mentoring meals, professional development workshops, and other events designed to facilitate a cohesive community of young scholars. They are part of a vibrant and supportive community of graduate students, faculty and staff who are all committed graduate student success here at UMass Amherst. Currently, there are over 160 students in the REAL Fellowship Program.
